What you will get

When you purchase a sewing pattern you will be able to download a file in .zip format (if you don’t have WinZip or other software to open it you can download it free here) containing several other files:

• For printing at home
  • The pattern(s) in pdf format for A4 and Letter size paper (you need Acrobat Reader to read the file)
  • Print overview in .jpg format showing the layout of the pattern pieces on paper. It is meant to help you assemble your pattern, showing how many rows and columns make up your pattern. The exact position of the pattern pieces may differ slightly from the image, depending on pattern size and paper format. If you need help assembling your pattern you can find it explained in How to assemble your pattern.
• For printing at a print/copy shop (NO assembly)
  • The pattern(s) in pdf format, all pieces on one large sheet (max. 90cm wide) which you can take to your local print shop or upload to an online printing service like Fedex Office. For more information on printing your patterns at a print shop see Print Your Pattern at a Print Shop
• Recommended fabric layout incl. required fabric yardage

If you choose credit card or Paypal as payment option your download will be available immediately after payment is complete.  If you choose to pay via bank transfer you will receive instructions for completing the payment.
In addition, you will receive an email receipt as well a separate email containing your download link which is valid for 7 days. If you include Online File Backup Protection in your order the link remains active for 1 year.

How To Take Your Measurements

Flamenco dance costumes are very fitted garments and in order to achieve the best possible fit it is important to take your measurements as precisely as you can. Before you start

• ask someone to help you, especially if you’ll be taking your upper body measurements
• mark your natural waist
• mark your shoulder points (see image on the left)
• check out the video below where I explain in detail how to take your measurements

 

How to Choose Your Size

Flamenco dance outfits are meant to have a close fit. Therefore the patterns are designed with practically no ease, i.e. the measurements of the garment are the same as the body measurements. You need to take this into account when selecting your size and choose the bigger one in case of doubt.

How to Take Your Measurements

Bust: Measure around your body, under your arms and across the fullest part of the bust

Waist: Measure around your natural waist line

Hip: Measure around the fullest part of your body, usually approx. 22-25cm below the waist

Print Your Pattern at a Print Shop

All sewing patterns available for purchase come in paper sizes A4 and Letter suitable for printing on any home printer as well as a large format version for printing at a print or copy shop.
While printing your pattern at home and assembling it allows you start your project without delay you might find it more convenient to have it printed at your local print/copy shop or an online print service like for example FedEx Office.
The large format pattern file is max. 90cm/3ft wide and as long as the pattern requires (approx. 4m for a bata de cola pattern, less for other patterns).
For both online printing service or local print shop you need to give the following print instructions:

• print on 90cm / 3ft wide paper
• use the cheapest paper available (NO poster weight or glossy paper)
• DO NOT scale to fit. Print ACTUAL SIZE

Once you have your pattern printed on one large sheet of paper all you have left to do is cut out the pieces following the outer lines and you’re ready to go.

How to Assemble Your Pattern

When you purchase a sewing pattern you receive a file in .zip format (if you don’t have software to open it you can download it free here) containing several other files:

• Your pattern file(s) in .pdf format (you need Acrobat Reader to open it, available for free download here). For printing on your home printer there is a version for A4 and one in Letter size paper.
• a print overview of your pattern pages in .jpg format, indicating how the pattern pieces are arranged on the pages
• Suggested fabric layout incl. yardage requirements (based on a fabric width of 150cm). If your fabric has stripes or other prints that need to match up or direction matters like for velvets you’ll need more fabric than indicated.

You can print the pattern on any home printer. Print out the A4 or Letter size pattern file(s) and keep the print overview handy. When printing make sure the pages are not scaled down (choose “Page Scaling: No scaling” or “Actual Size” on the print screen).
  The next step is to assemble the pages. Look at the print overview to see how the pattern pieces are arranged on the paper. Page 1 is the top left corner, attach page 2 below etc.




 Each page has pairs of small rectangular marks on the sides that have adjacent pattern pieces. Overlap the pages so that the marks are positioned on top of each other and join the pages using sticky tape. Then cut out the pieces along the outer (cut) line and you are ready to use your pattern.




TIP: Before printing and assembling your pattern click the icon below to download, print and assemble a 4 page print test. It contains a 35cm x 35cm rectangle plus  1.5cm seam allowance (like most pattern pieces) and allows you to check your settings and make sure your pattern, once assembled, will be the corrrect size.
